Itinerary

Day 1Arrival & Sunset Game Drive

  • Early-morning pickup from your Kigali hotel or airport
  • Scenic drive across the rolling hills to Akagera National Park
  • Check-in at Ruzizi Tented Lodge; light lunch overlooking the lake
  • Late-afternoon game drive in search of elephants, lions, giraffes, buffalo, and rhinos
  • Return to camp for sunset sundowners on the lodge terrace
  • Dinner under the stars and short night-drive spotlighting nocturnal wildlife

Day 2Full Day Safari & Lake Ihema Boat Expedition

  • Pre-dawn tea/coffee and departure for an early morning game drive—prime time for predator and rhino sightings
  • Return to camp for a hot breakfast
  • Mid-morning boat safari on Lake Ihema: hippos, Nile crocodiles, and prolific water-bird colonies (African fish eagle, papyrus gonolek)
  • Picnic lunch on the lakeshore
  • Afternoon bird-watching walk with your guide, spotting weavers, kingfishers, and papyrus endemics
  • Optional community visit to a nearby local heritage village (pre-book required)
  • Dinner and overnight at Ruzizi Tented Lodge

Day 3Nature Walk, Final Game Drive & Return

  • Optional dawn guided nature walk (45–60 minutes) to explore bird hides and swamp fringes
  • Return to lodge for breakfast and final game-drive en route to the park gate
  • Farewell photo stop at panoramic viewpoints over Lake Ihema
  • Transfer back to Kigali, arriving mid-afternoon
